Medical microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) is a natural & effective way of stimulating collagen production.
Microneedling works by creating pinpoint punctures in the dermis of the skin (called micro-channels) to trigger the body’s own wound healing response and generate new collagen and elastin. It is particularly effective at treating fine lines & wrinkles, acne scars and stretch marks as well as improving skin texture.
A topical anaesthetic is used to numb the skin initially and the treatment usually takes 15-30 minutes. Immediately afterwards, it is normal to look slightly sunburned. Your skin may also feel warm and tighter than usual. This will start to subside after 1-2 hours. It is important to note that every person is different, so redness will vary depending on your skin type.
A course of 3-6 treatments are recommended and optimal results will be seen approximately 6 weeks post treatment.
Some patients find microneedling mildly uncomfortable- however topical anaesthetic is applied to minimise any discomfort.
The procedure itself takes approximately 15 minutes. However a thorough medical consultation is required prior to this to ensure this is the right treatment for you.
As the purpose of microneedling is to induce collagen production, the best results are seen 6-12 weeks after the initial treatment (as this is approximately the length of time taken for new collagen to be formed). A course of 3-6 treatments are recommended for best results, depending on your area of concern.
