Botulinum toxin has more 50 different medical indications for its use. However, it is best known for the ability to “relax” the appearance of muscles.
Botulinum toxin is injected into the specific muscle which requires treatment and works by disrupting the nerve signalling process, therefore ‘relaxing’ it. As a result, the wrinkle or furrow is reduced and a smoother, brighter appearance is achieved.
Botulinum toxin is also used commonly to help treat teeth grinding (known as bruxism) as well as hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).
Dr Fiona and Dr Carole uses botulinum toxin A (also known as Botox®) which has been widely used for medical purposes for more than 30 years and has been approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for cosmetic use. Typically, it takes between 3-14 days for the toxin to take effect and results last around 3-4 months.
All treatments require a medical consultation with our doctors to best inform you on each treatment and to assess whether you are a suitable candidate.
